This review is the same as the one for the location on Circle: I LOVE TACO EXPRESS! I just want to shout it from a mountain top! ...Although being in Colorado Springs is pretty much like doing just that! Anyways, this place is AWESOME. One of my first mexican food finds here in the Springs. I always get a #2 (which for you new-comers that's 2 beef tacos) and an horchata. It's perfect late at night (they are about the only thing still open at 1:30am), and the day after a long night of drinking... if you know what I mean. For those of you just looking for a quick breakfast option other than your typical McDonalds McMuffin, try the breakfast burritos, they are absolutely delicious! And for those of you looking for a quick breakfast option at 3pm in the afternoon, try the breakfast burritos, they are available all day! Don't let the questionable exterior fool you, they focus their energy on making BOMB mexican food, not updating the paint and seating.

Very tasty fast food Mexican. I'm from San Diego and they are comparable to So Cal Mexican food, especially the burritos.

Went here last weekend because my husband remembered loving their Chili Relleno burrito. We both got one. There was barely a chili relleno inside. Mostly filled with bland beans and rice...and I mean BLAND! Hubby said it wasn't as good as he remembered. Probably won't be back but we'll see.

  • Cathy S.

The breakfast burritos were awful today. Ordered three with no cheese and all of them had egg shells in them. Not just a little you could be willing to let go, at least half the shells were in them and my children almost ate them. That was the last time we go there and we would drive clear across town to go there. No more! The place is dirty & run down. Everytime we have went there I clean off the table with wipes because the tables haven't been cleaned. We have found hairs in our fountain drinks, I'm sure when they might have added the ice from the top if the machine. But today was the final straw! When the girl told the cooks about the egg shells, they laughed about it. If you've ever watched the cook you will notice he breaks the eggs with one hand and isn't that good at doing it obviously. I have watched him in the past and he isn't conscious of what he does. Never again!! I may have to add a star just to post this

I was just about to write this review with a fork or my grilled chicken burrito in one hand and the other on the keyboard, but I decided Yelp could wait a couple of minutes for me to finish the Mexican food extravaganza. #18 combo, subsitute the carne asada burrito for the grilled chicken burrito. Dang. The rice is always so-so, but the refried beans are AWESOME. And I absolutely love the grilled chicken. If you're not scared of sketchy people, or homeless people, and need food at some vampire like hour of the night, Taco Express is open 24 hours! As fellow Yelper Warren mentioned, there isn't much else open around the clock here in The Springs. Don't you dare think about getting a hotdog off the rollers at 7-11. Go to Taco Express!!!

Nachos! If you ever find yourself in this particular part of Colorado Springs looking for "AfterBar Cuisine" and don't want to sit around in a diner (read Denny's)-- try Taco Express They are efficient and fair with quality and price. The Nachos seem to weigh about 6lbs and a re loaded with seasoned fajita steak , Mexican cheeses and always plenty good guacamole. Salsas are OK- nothing amazing-- but overall this place is a good try.

I was pleasantly surprised by this fast food restaurant. We had the burrito (huge!) smothered in green chili and the beef nachos. Both were very tasty!!

  • Chris N.

Best fast Mexican in The Springs! Carnitas Burrito is always a winner

  • David M.

Kinda embarrassing to have liked this place so much, after just having had a privately catered dinner the night before and spending a gazillion dollars, only to realize that for a mere fraction of the cost we really really liked this chain store's #23 green chili burrito. Thought it was breakfast heaven. Fresh guacamole, cilantro, carne asada, along with onions, tomatoes and a few other goodies, all covered in an excellent green chili, made this place a hang-over favorite of ours. Try it . . . but maybe only after a night of drunken revelry.

I love Mexican food, and I would venture to say that this is better than most traditional Mexican restaurants. Definitely my guilty pressure.

Open 24 hours with some great food at good prices. 24 hours shouldn't be a surprise - it's emblazoned on the sign 20 feet in the air in some pretty big letters. What is suprising, is that the food is actually pretty damn good! I keep wanting to branch out and try different thing, but am constantly pulled back to the beef burrito combo; there is a load of food for what you are paying. The service is relatively quick, and the inclusion of a drive through makes it a great place to stop on a short lunch break, if you are late to work, or if you feel like destroying your insides on a timeline and a budget. The Horchata is badass here, as well. I'll be back, for sure.

  • Cobra K.

Just as good as the other ones in town.

    (4)
  • Gregory S.

Seriously one of the best chorizo, steak, egg, and cheese burritos I've ever had

    (5)
  • Tom N.

Stopped by the drive through this morning for the 1st time. The menu was similar in size and price to another 24 hour taco place in the area and the service was fast and friendly. My litmus test for a Mexican restaurant is the quality of the rice and beans and Taco Express passed with flying colors! Actually I can't remember having better rice and beans in a restaurant since we lived in San Antonio.

  • Brandon G.

Their burrito was decent (I was starving at the time) but really, the filling of boiled meat, pepper and onion was nothing special and a bit overpriced for what I got.

  • Jerome C.

This is the kind of spot that most you folks in the Springs won't stop at. Doesn't have that irresistible draw that Apple Bees and Chillis seems to in this town. And that's fine with me cause it keeps the drive thru line short for the rest of us. Good Breakfast Burrito Joint Checklist: -Make their own tortilla- CHECK -More eggs than potatoes- CHECK -English is optional- CHECK -Rumble in the jungle about an hour later- CHECK Taco Express is my spot. Lots of competition in this town, but this should be on your list.

  • Enrique T.

Always fresh, good food, friendly and quick service. My favorite spot from breakfast to dinner

  • David B.

Great Mexican food, great price, great hours. When it's late at night and your option is nasty bar food or Taco Bell, Taco Express comes to the rescue. I knew I had found a gem when I drove through at 3:30 AM on a Monday night, and there were two cars in front me. Don't be fooled, the food is real, delicious Mexican wrapped up in a shady exterior and cheap styrofoam take out boxes. The carne asada may have been slightly over cooked, but the pico de gallo that came with it was easily the best I've ever had, and I don't even like pico. Chicken tacos were also delicious and the chicken was brilliantly marinated with an authentic, spicy taste. Gauacamole and the salsas were great too. This place is awesome.

THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD MONEY CAN BUY! I was recently in Mexico City chasing after what I heard was the best burrito in North America. Little did I realize that the best burrito was right in front of my face the entire time. I consider myself an expert in Mexican cuisine and have developed a sophisticated pallet for verde (green) and rojo (red) salsa. In fact, just like wine, I can tell the year, climate and soil conditions that the chili's and tomatoes were grown. Surprisingly amazing dining experience! This has to be by far the best Mexican food that you're going to find, I would gladly pay double what they charge. The menu is quite large and robust with plenty of different choices to select from. One little surprise that I was not expecting at all is that they serve the meals with huge slices of lime and homemade salsa that is truly unique and cannot be found any place else. You throw on top of a little bit of additional value with the exceptionally low prices and you have a real winning experience. I strongly recommend the Taco Express if you are also an expert in Mexican cuisine. Teddy D.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but I had one of the best Steak Burrito's I've ever eaten. The wrap appeared to be made on site and had a wonderful slightly crispiness to it. For me personally it's what made this burrito stand out.

  • Lindsay B.

Awesome food! Can't go wrong with anything on menu- beans, burritos, tostadas, and the tortas are some of the favorites of our house.

  • Michael S.

Been here a few times when in need of some quick Mexican food. Owned by a family and run by a brother sister combo, nice folks, great quick Mexican food. Probably as close I'll get to my faves in Arizona. Carnitas are always good and carne asada fries are still the best late night snack ever!

  • Masato M.

Just love it. So fresh and tasty and they're fast at making it. In fact they have a 24 hour drive thru!

  • J S.

Guys at work eat here all the time and love it so I gave it a try. Wasn't impressed at all! Prices were expensive and food wasn't good at all. I got the burrito/enchilada special, it was sub-par. Friends ordered carna asada fries and it looked unappetizing to be polite. Don't waste your time or money here instead go to Arceo's just down the way and get a cheaper lunch with way better quality food!!!

It was the best mexican food I've had since Cali! Decent amount of food for the price!

We were hesitant to stop and eat at this place, because we had planned to go back home and cook. However, yelp won us over with previous ratings and reviews. The menu was large and limitless, prices unbeatable, and quantity was abundant. We ordered the carne Asada tacos which include guacamole and salsa -- they were even much bigger than your average a la carte tacos. All for $2.20!! The others in our party ordered the breakfast burrito which was perfectly stuffed with crispy bacon, fluffy eggs, and not your normal potatoes... FRENCH FRIES. Which added such a great spin to the traditional breakfast burrito. The other member of our party ordered the carne Asada burrito which was dressed with salsa verde. Accompanied by flavorful rice and delicious refried beans. The burrito was massive and filling. The carne Asada was unbeatable in texture and flavor! The entire meal we kept commenting about how damn delicious it was! YEEEEEEAAAAHHHH. Also! The boys who take your order make sure to give you the great red salsa and green sauce to add to the already wonderful flavors on your dish. Lastly...I'm sure if your an avid Mexican food eater, you know you need to squeeze some serious lime on, well, everything. And at taco express they give you HUGE slices of lime. Practically half the entire lime. BUT THE CHERRY ON TOP OF THIS FINE MEAL, was the ability to point, laugh at, and troll the Taco Bell that is in perfect view outside the window.

I visited this location and I must say I was not impressed at all. The interior was outdated and needed a lot of Attention. I ordered the caso fries, which was pretty bland, nothing to rave about at all!! and my girl ordered a chicken burrito, she took 2 bites and left it alone. Nothing about the food said come back and order more. If I could have given them 0 stars, I would have. The food sucked!

Not the nicest neighborhood, but worth getting shot for. Tastes great late night when you're starving for some Mexican. Gone back a few times.

I loved this place when i was stationed at fort Carson. The food here is AMAZING. They stayed open late which was perfect for a late night snack on the way back to the base from tejon st. Get the fish tacos. I wish i had known about Taco Express the first year i was stationed in Co, i think i would have been alot happier. When i'm back in Co, this summer, this will be one of the first places i hit up. I can't remember eating anything bad at this place. Once you try the food here, you'll immediately forget how the outside of the building looks. The money they don't spend on advertising, gets put in there food, i think.

Here in Colorado Springs we don't have much open late at night. There isn't a single 24-hour coffee shop in town. But we do have a choice between half a dozen 24-hour Mexican joints, and this is my favorite one. Now, when I go to Taco Express, I order the chimichanga. In fact, I have never ordered anything else, and looking at the other crap my friends order from there reinforces my decision to be a one-plate kinda guy. Maybe they have more good foodstuffs somewhere on the menu, but I don't know and I'm not going to find out, because who cares if they only have one good item on the menu, as long as that one item is as AWESOME as their chimichanga? It's a deep-fried beef burrito, half smothered in sour cream, half smothered in guacamole, served with pico de gallo and shredded lettuce on the sides. I like to then drown it using both their red and their green salsas. After dozens of repeat visits, I discovered that you can actually order your chimichanga to come with beef OR chicken! I still like the beef one best but I appreciate the option. Since it doesn't seem to take them any longer to make it either way, I wonder what other great stuff they might be able to put in there...

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
